A charming idea for an invitation to a promotional Christmas party event, commissioned by a London client.
Lino cut workshops in Thornhill February 2015
Pass a happy Saturday making lino cuts in February. Thomas Tosh is a friendly cafe´and gift shop that provides a great space upstairs where I run my workshops. And they provide an excellent lunch downstairs with cakes and coffee to keep energy levels high. Gift tokens are available if you know someone who would like a Christmas present with a difference. I only take six students in a class, so you will get plenty of attention, and time to do lots of colourful printing using Easy-cut lino with the best tools and ink included in the price: £ 60 a day.

Labels for Steilhead Cider
Max Nowell needed some labels for his artisan cider. He came up with three birds that reflected the three different types of cider: bullfinch, siskin and nuthatch. Max has been making cider for many years. He has planted a cider apple orchard at his house at Steilhead where all the production takes place. And he also collects apples from orchards locally, up and down Nithsdale. All the apples have been pressed now, and the juice is fermenting away in barrels over the winter, ready for next year's bottles.
Autumn biscuit tins
Bright autumn leaf colour and a sunny afternoon: I photographed my latest biscuit tin labels for the Fine Cheese Company. The theme was the English countryside, and these are the two Autumn tins. Hedgehogs and red squirrels live in my Scottish garden. The apple trees and hills and woods are all part of my home landscape. I don't have a distant lake in my back garden though, that's taken from a bit further afield, the Lake District perhaps. And my pumpkins are never going to get that big.
September 2014 Waitrose Kitchen magazine
Editor William Sitwell writes about his orchard in the September Waitrose Kitchen magazine. He describes the joys of picking his apples, making cider, and eating apple crumble. All very much a part of my own life style, the decorative border is pretty much the view from my kitchen window. Except I don't have a cider press, just a printing press.
The only hiccup is that I haven't actually seen the article in print, as my nearest Waitrose is fifty miles away in Edinburgh.
So let me know if you have seen it out there.

Two of the postcards for Pollock's Toy Museum
I was delighted to be asked to design postcards for Pollock's. I had been taken there as a child by my uncle when I used to visit London. As a student at the Central School of Art I would wander around, and later I took my own children there: nothing has changed. If you have never been, go now. It is a little piece of London history, old style.

Some new postcards
Robert Smails Printing Works have just completed a set of six postcards commissioned by Mary Fawdry for Pollock's Toy Museum in Scala Street, London.
They are letterpress printed in three and four colours by Tony Niepold on the Original Heidelberg. Installed in 1953, it was the last machine that Smails ever purchased. The National Trust for Scotland took Smails into its care in 1986. It continues to be a genuine working printers using the old technology, and printing to the highest standards.
Here is Tony packing up my cards; on the far right is the Heidelberg, a 'clam-shell' platen.
